Earliest vintage on record! This was a surprise for most, particularly with the previous 2024 vintage being the latest on record. Earlier warm conditions got things off to a flying start with bud burst being significantly early. Warm and dry earlier conditions made for low to no disease pressure which is always welcomed. Warm conditions continued and while many spoke about harvesting 2 weeks early, we harvested our Shiraz blocks 3 weeks earlier compared to our average harvest dates.
The cold soak – Maximising gentle extraction of colour and flavour from the skins without the harshness of the increasing alcohol as a ferment proceeds. With 24-hour of cold soaking here we can really enhance bright fruit characters.
Fermentation – Our signature cool ferments allow slow gentle extraction of flavour and tannin assisted by gentle pump overs and plunges (pushing the skins down under the juice).
Maturation – Following fermentation, the wine is then matured in a selection of the finest 2-4-year-old seasoned Ex-Squid Ink oak, American oak Hogshead (300L) oak barrels about 15 months (4 remaining) including a small amount of new oak American oak.
The wine – Concentration in 2025 was outstanding with very small berry sizes contributing to a great richness of boysenberry and black berry fruit complemented by gorgeous swaths of liquorice. The palate is full, long and delightful leaving this to be a fantastic vintage that is sure to impress.
As always don’t let anyone get in the way of securing this wine, including yourself.
Ageing – This wine should be enjoyed now to 5 years in good cellaring conditions.
